Davido honors late mother Veronica Adeleke with new university hostel project in Nigeria
Global Afrobeats superstar Davido (David Adeleke) has taken a deeply personal step in honour of his late mother by commissioning a new female hostel at Clifford University in Owerrinta, Abia State, in her name. The facility — the Veronica Imade Adeleke Female Hostel — was officially unveiled at the university’s 6th Convocation Ceremony, held on Sunday, 19 October 2025.

Davido described the hostel as more than a building — it’s “a continuation of her purpose.” His mother, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, was a dedicated educator and philanthropist who believed in the power of education and compassion to change lives. “My mother was a teacher and a giver who believed education and kindness could change lives. This building is a continuation of her purpose — turning love into legacy,” he wrote.

At the convocation, Davido also delivered a motivational commencement speech to the graduating students. Addressing the crowd, he said: “When I looked into their faces, I saw the same fire that built me — that hunger to be seen, to make something out of nothing, to turn pain into power. Talent might open the door, but purpose gives it meaning.”
The event was attended by dignitaries, university management, and students. Notably, nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, a close friend of Davido, pledged to sponsor school fees for 50 students of the university, adding a philanthropic layer to the celebration.
